Message In A Bottle

While away on LSV I received the following email on my birthday (October 28th). It’s no ordinary email either. It was sent 4 years ago by who else but — well, me. An 18-year-old Michael Gray doing things he shouldn’t. When really he should be studying. Some things never change ay?

The following is an e-mail from the past, composed on Monday, August 28, 2006, and sent via FutureMe.org

Dear Future-Me,

I am in study period today (in the library) with Stephen Loader. I really should be writing an essay for english on the film, The Piano, but instead I’m writing this message to you!

I am in year 13 at Upper Hutt College and take the following subjects: English, Statistics, Photography, IT and Tourism. I have just recently been to the Victoria and Massey University Open Days. They haven’t really helped me much but I’ve pretty much decided to study Computer Science at Victoria University anyway. So I wonder if you actually went for it, huh? At lunchtimes I hang out with my m8s Stephen Loader, Ray Cheung and Steven Wray.

I’ve just recently had an interview at EDS for a part-time job after recently leaving Silverstream New World in April. I wonder if u ever got that job. I applied for a job there b4 as a data entry guy but unfortunately I was rejected due to the fact I had too much practise with my laptop – Toshiba Satellite M50 – have u still got it btw? So yeah, No NUM pads!

I’m still battling with SA. I wonder if you’ve improved greatly – I’m hoping u have! 😉 Do you have a gf?? <dont blush!>, Anyway the website for this is futureme.org. Hopefully your email address hasn’t changed!

School exams are next week!! Arghhh I’m so behind in statistics – prob not big news for u huh! The real exams are in november – good ol ncea – u remember??

The U2 concert is on November 25th after being postponed from July. At the moment I have no money to get up to auckland and back! I wonder if u went and do u even still like U2??

Dad is going with his new business toltecsolutions, has it gotten big?

Recently our family bought a motor-home, its quite fun but its really rocky and hard to use my laptop!!

Well yeah nice to see how your’re going. Don’t bother replying back I won’t be here, unless of course in the year 2010 time travel machines have actually been invented and in that case, come see me!

From,
You

    1. Wait… I can do that!?

Hmm I’d probably say something like “Don’t fret if you don’t get that job,” and “you’ll probably face a lot of rejection in the next few years.”

And “Things may not always go how you anticipate. Embrace the change.”

Nice encouraging stuff like that. Anything too specific and I may break the space time continuum.
