I’ve always wanted to strive for a more simple lifestyle. Because whether I like it or not, I usually end up spending all my free time on the computer, still going through things to read and watch.
My Instapaper list is incredibly long, my Google Reader full of thousands of unread blog posts. And of course my Twitter and Facebook feeds are growing bigger every second that goes by. Not to mention all the books, movies and games I’m still meaning to experience.
So most of my time is taken up by consuming. There’s nothing wrong with that but what I really need is a balance. I want to get more into producing, which is why I’m trying to write something new every day.
So recently I’ve made a few changes. I’ve reduced the amount of blogs I follow, and dropped a number of people I follow on Twitter. I’m still trying to sort out Facebook but this has proved a bit of a problem since the recent redesign. The Better Facebook Greasemonkey add-on helps decrease the clutter somewhat.
I’m a big fan of Leo Babauta and his blogs; Zenhabits and mnmlist. And as Leo says, it’s an ongoing process, there will never be a time when you can finally say that your life is clutter free. That’s death! There’s always something you can do to make your life easier on yourself. Simplify.
